The Texas State Bobcats scored themselves a huge commitment when C.J. Webster cast his lot with Coach Dennis Nutt's Southland Conference program. Webster had previously considered waiting until later in the spring to sign, but instead chose to go ahead an pull the trigger now during the early fall period."After weighing the pros and cons of both schools with my parents, Texas State stood out," said Webster.
Long Island University was the runner-up in the Webster sweepstakes.
"I loved New York, but in the end the distance became a factor," said Webster.
The 6 ft 7 power forward is a "throwback" big man who plays big. In this era of big men who are asked to shoot from the perimeter, Webster is almost a rare commodity in that he brings intensity and aggression on the floor. No matter who the opponent is, you can count on Webster to bring his lunchpail night in and night out.
Webster's high school, Fort Bend Marshall located just outside of Houston, is expected to make a push for the Texas 5A title. Marshall features Texas A&M point guard signee David Devezin, along with 2006 forward/center Darris Santee who is being pursued by major schools such as Baylor and California.
"Our goal this year is to win state, no more, no less," said Webster.
Webster intends on majoring in mass communications and with a minor in education. |
