After a solid sophomore campain and a productive summer, Jermaine Beal has seen his interest from high major college programs starting to surge lately. Although he does not have his sites set strictly on the Big 12 conference right now, quite a few of the schools in that league already do have their sites set squarely on him.
Beal is a 6'3, 190 pound wing guard out of DeSoto High School in Texas, and has shown some flashes of being a bigtime prospect for the class of 2006.
During this past AAU season, he started for a very solid Team Texas 16’s squad, which included several other division one prospects in the team’s lineup. He showed his gritty toughness and ability to play through injury by overcoming a broken nose late in the summer.
"Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and UNLV are recruiting me right now," Beal said. "Nebraska and Colorado are in there too," he said.
Last year in high school, Beal averaged approximately 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists as a sophomore playing on the varsity squad.
Beal said that he does not have any specific favorites at the moment out of those schools, but he did say that he already has offers in hand from Baylor, SMU, and Colorado.
Educational opportunity and playing time will be two of his main criteria, he said.
Beal also stated that he has unofficially visited SMU and Baylor already at this point. He has not taken the SAT or ACT yet, but said that he would probably sign up in a few months to take one of them. |
